About bladder pain syndrome
Bladder pain syndrome affects a large number of people in Hungary, even according to conservative estimates. Recognizing and treating this excruciating, persistent, painful condition is a medical task, but reaching a diagnosis is not an easy process, and lifestyle changes are inevitable to maintain the newly found balance.
What symptoms may indicate interstitial cystitis – painful bladder syndrome?
- chronic pelvic pain – radiating to the bladder, urethra, and vagina
- difficulty in controlling urination – frequent urges to urinate
- due to the former, usually only a small amount of urine is excreted
- frequent, painful urination during the day and night (the pain temporarily decreases with bladder emptying, then increases again with urine production)
The occurrence of the above symptoms may vary from person to person, as may their severity, and there are also characteristics that occur specifically only in certain individuals – due to lifestyle. Although interstitial cystitis is considered a urological problem, it is important that the above symptoms are not of bacterial origin and persist / quickly return regardless of antibiotic treatment. It is therefore important that there is no detectable pathogen in connection with the above symptoms.
People living with IC (interstitial cystitis) can also live a balanced life, as we all deserve to live our lives in harmony. We can contribute to positive changes in our lifestyle with our diet and dietary supplements. There are several methods for strengthening the mucous membrane (GAG layer) that covers the surface of the bladder.

Acidic urine?
It is now well known that certain foods affect not only our gastrointestinal tract, but also our urine and thus our bladder. Human urine is basically acidic (normal value between 4.5-8.5), which we can easily measure ourselves with a PH test strip available at pharmacies. However, it can cause problems if the PH value of already acidic urine shifts more and more towards acidity – e.g. due to the influence of certain foods and drinks.
What symptoms can acidic urine cause?
Excessively acidic urine most often presents with symptoms similar to a cold, such as an unpleasant and urgent urge to urinate, burning or even painful urination, and pain radiating into the pelvis or urethra. The symptoms can be even more severe in those who also have other urinary tract complaints – such as bladder pain syndrome, chronic cystitis, urethritis or urinary tract stones. It should not be forgotten that these basic symptoms can also indicate a more serious problem similar to the ones listed, so in case of frequently recurring complaints, you should definitely consult a urologist!
What foods and drinks can cause acidic urine?
In general, highly acidic foods and drinks have this effect on our urine, but there are also some that can make it more acidic than average. If you experience symptoms of excessively acidic urine, you should avoid consuming the following foods and drinks:
- alcoholic beverages (beer, wine, spirits)
- carbonated soft drinks
- coffee, cola and other caffeinated drinks
- acidic fruits (especially citrus fruits)
- tomato dishes, sauces, ketchup
- strong and spicy spices, vinegar
- artificial sweeteners
- Asian, Mexican cuisine
More information
Glucosamine sulfate |
Glucosamine has natural anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. Glucosamine also plays an important role in microbiological health. It helps form the connective tissue that makes up parts of the digestive system and helps the immune system function. In this case, glucosamine sulfate is an important building block of the bladder, prostate, and GAG layer. |
---|---|
Chondroitin sulfate |
The use of chondroitin sulfate restores metabolic balance, enhances proteoglycan and collagen synthesis, as well as hyaluronic acid production by synoviocytes, and at the same time inhibits chondrolytic enzyme activity. As a result, inflammation slows down. It increases the strength and elasticity of connective tissue. In this case, chondroitin sulfate is the main component of the glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layer, which is the protective layer of the bladder. |
Sodium hyaluronate |
Sodium hyaluronate functions as a tissue lubricant and plays an important role in regulating interactions between related tissues. When in contact with water, it forms a slippery solution, therefore improving the external, viscous coating of cells. In this case, sodium hyaluronate is another component of the protective GAG layer of the bladder. |
Quercetin and rutin |
Quercetin is a natural and non-acidic flavonoid. Rutin strengthens capillaries, therefore reducing the symptoms of bleeding disorders. It also helps the absorption of quercetin and has an anti-inflammatory effect. |
Calcium glycerophosphate |
Alkapure Calcium Glycerophosphate dietary supplement tablets can help reduce the irritating effects of acidic foods/drinks, as they act on the food, not the body. Each Alkapure tablet contains approximately 8% of the recommended daily calcium intake, in the form of calcium glycerophosphate. Calcium glycerophosphate is as easily processed as calcium in milk. |
Ingredients Quantity |
UNISIS™ film-coated tablets have the following composition: Product content / tablet Each Alkapure tablet contains 65mg of calcium, in the form of calcium glycerophosphate. Detailed Composition/tablet: Calcium glycerophosphate 345mg/tablet Other ingredients: |
